Your Role:


As a Software Test Manager you are an experienced 2nd line manager who will lead an organization of software developers-in-test, embedded across multiple development teams, responsible for delivering highly scalable distributed services and applications. 


You will provide direction and guidance to your test teams in driving shift-left testing, automation and continuous testing methods while ensuring quality delivery of services and applications. You will partner closely with the Software Engineering Manager and Product Manager of your product area to grow and continuously improve our engineering, product delivery and quality practices.

Your Job:


  • Driving test automation to the beginning of the development cycle by providing technical direction to your teams on their automation strategies
  • Owning the quality and testing deliverables for your teams’ services and applications, and ensure appropriate test practices and methodologies are applied
  • Be a hands-on 2nd line Test Manager who will spend up to 60% of your time on people management, recruitment and organizing your teams, and 40% of your time in design reviews, sprint planning and other Agile artifacts
  • Providing support to any production escalations within your teams to help resolve and manage issues
  • Partnering with peers across Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Support and Human Resources to drive delivery of cross-functional projects and address technical and resourcing challenges in your organization
  • Mentoring and guiding the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers, and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals
  • Providing continual performance feedback to your direct reports, address underperformance and recognize the individual contributions of team members
  • Fostering continual improvement in processes, technologies and tooling
  • In collaboration with Product Mangers, Development Managers, and your Test Engineers, maintaining a prioritized backlog and create short term and long term goals for your team
  • Helping your teams build relationships across functions such as Support, Operations, Development, and other teams to ensure Global Relay’s continuing success

About You:


  • 2+ years of experience as a 2nd line Software Test Manager or Senior QA Manager overseeing an organization of 15 people or greater, including managing 1st line Managers or Leads
  • 3+ years of experience as a hands-on 1st line Software Test Manager or Lead, managing a team of 2 people or greater
  • 8+ years of experience in software testing and automation, shipping enterprise grade software, using multiple test methodologies, frameworks and programming languages.
  • Extensive people management experience, and experience aggressively recruiting for and building a software testing organization
  • Expertise applying test and automation practices in an agile environment utilizing continuous delivery and continuous testing models
  • Experience testing and managing large, highly scalable distributed services, complex databases, microservices and API’s in service and resource-oriented architectures
  • Experience with any of the following is an asset:
    • Java or C# languages
    • REST APIs and associated test frameworks
    • Selenium WebDriver
    • Performance testing and frameworks
    • Big data technology
    • Unit testing frameworks
    • Network principles and protocols
