Your Role:

Global Relay requires an experienced Technical Product Owner (“TPO”) to assume ownership of specific components/features within Global Relay’s product line. They will work closely with their agile team(s), other TPOs and product management to execute the product roadmap, and drive new products and features through the development process.


Working with Product Management, the TPO will define detailed business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for specific features, and collaborate with their Team Leads, Architects, and UI/UX to ensure high quality designs are produced. TPOs will also attend daily stand-ups, refine their team’s backlog, plan sprints, accept completed stories, monitor progress, report status, and be involved in key release activities including documentation and training.


Your Job:


Working in a dynamic team environment, the Technical Product Owner is responsible for the following:

  • Own the up and down responsibility for the delivery of their component/feature
  • Collaborate with senior product management, sales, support, clients, and other TPOs in London and Vancouver to produce and manage your component’s backlog and contribute to the product roadmap
  • Translate product roadmaps and feature requests into models, workflow diagrams, user stories, acceptance criteria, and other suitable artefacts
  • Collaborate with other TPOs, architects, UI/UX, and team leads to drive requirements through the design phase
  • Identify and coordinate cross-component dependencies throughout the development process
  • Work with product management, development, and other departments to actively remove obstacles blocking progress and ensure initiatives are tracking to schedule
  • Prioritize and refine your team(s) backlog
  • Attend daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, retrospectives and other team meetings with your agile team(s)
  • Create work estimates, track progress, and report status in the form of burn up/down charts
  • Understand the design, business logic, and technical architecture of their platform components and how those components interact with the rest of the platform
  • Serve as primary product expert (functional, not technical) for the components for which you are responsible


About You:


  • Degree in engineering, computer science or related technical field
  • 3-5 years of experience as an IT product manager or product owner
  • Hands on experience with backend services
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum development methodologies
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Experience with either SaaS, messaging platform(s) or data integration for enterprise markets
  • Experience drive cross-team initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders across the organization
  • Experience managing a remote team supporting a broader initiative
  • Strong requirement elicitation, analysis, use case modelling, workflow design and documentation skills 
  • Experience planning, monitoring, and reporting on project status (potentially for multiple initiatives/teams)
